Here's another case for well-testing law Editorial Poughkeepsie Journal (NY) December 15, 2012For more than a decade, the Poughkeepsie Journal has pushed and prodded Dutchess County lawmakers to approve a comprehensive well- testing law, believing it would provide invaluable data, empower people to make safer choices, and perhaps ultimately save them from severe health hazards. The county has stubbornly refused to act. Yet, over that time, some progress has been made on the municipal level as three towns - East Fishkill, Fishkill and Wappinger - have enacted their own laws requiring water tests be done on private wells when homes are sold. Well, lo and behold, the Journal recently has been able to make use of that data to reveal important information about contamination affecting at least a dozen homeowners in a section of Hopewell Junction. This is a prime example of why Dutchess County lawmakers, including Executive Marc Molinaro, should get forcefully behind such a comprehensive well-test law. ...
