Inside Baseball: Vapor Intrusion at the Navy Yard Mill, Dracut,
Massachusetts
by Lenny Siegel February, 2013For several years, children who practiced baseball indoors and the adults who coached and watched them were exposed to unacceptable levels of trichloroethylene (TCE) and tetrachloroethylene (PCE) vapors at the Former Navy Yard Mill site in Dracut, Massachusetts. Not only was the property owner’s effort to reduce contamination inadequate, but building occupants (ballplayers, parents, etc.) were unaware of any contamination until the facility was closed in 2012.
