Deere-Hitachi wants OK to redevelop brownfield

Deere-Hitachi Construction Machinery Corp. has filed a request with  
the N.C. Department of Environment and Natural Resources to redevelop  
a brownfields property at 1140 W. Mountain St. in Kernersville.

The company said it plans to use the land as part of an expansion of  
its nearby manufacturing plant. It said in October it would create at  
least 340 full-time jobs and make a $97 million capital investment  
that will bolster its Kernersville operations by 60 percent. That  
includes buying 60 acres and opening a second plant with 330,000  
square feet in nearby North Park.
