Toxins aside, former GE site slated for new high school Linda Conner Lambeck Greenwich Time (CT) June 22, 2013BRIDGEPORT -- For half a century, General Electric manufactured small motors and various electrical devices at its factory on 77 acres on the city's East Side. Before that, Remington Arms made rifles on the property. Now, all that remains of the city's manufacturing past on the site are industrial contaminants, including arsenic, lead and petroleum- based pollutants. It might seem surprising then that the city is considering the property as the location for a new Harding High School, but some experts say that once cleanup is complete, the site will be safe enough for children. ...
