46 reasons why Staten Island's West Shore development is problematic By Mark D. Stein Staten Island Advance (NY) August 17, 2013STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - WEST SHORE - The Staten Island Economic Development Corporation (SIEDC) has come up with a few reasons why large parcels of the West Shore remain idle. Forty-six reasons, actually. For the past eight years, the organization has been at the forefront of Brownfield Redevelopment on Staten Island, it said in a release last week. The term Brownfield comes from the federal government’s description for land contaminated from past industrial use. "We have surveyed every site, spoken with every property owner, documented every contaminant, and attempted to assist every property owner in securing funds to clean-up their site," the SIEDC said. ...
