Group tracks possible contaminated sites in Ilion

ILION, N.Y. Virginia Mattison looked out her front door at the  
abandoned multistory brick building directly across Spruce Street.

“It seems like every day I look out there and there’s another broken  
window,” she said, motioning to the former Morgan-Duofold Factory  
Store on the quiet village street. “Who knows what’s over there?

”The building is a stark contrast to the residential homes lining the  
Ilion street, and now is on the radar of the state Department of  
Environmental Conservation for potential contamination thanks to  
local grassroots efforts.
