Seminole OKs Brownfield resolution

Council’s approval paves the way for rehabilitation and redevelopment  
of Seminole Mall

SEMINOLE - City council members unanimously approved a resolution  
declaring the Seminole Mall property a blighted and contaminated site  
at its Nov. 12 meeting.

This was the first in a three-step process for the land to receive a  
Brownfield designation from the state, which would pave the way for  
the long-awaited redevelopment of the property, located at the  
northeast corner of 113th Street North and Park Boulevard. A  
Brownfield designation will aid the future environmental remediation,  
rehabilitation and economic development of the Seminole Mall area.  
Such a designation could lend itself to tax credits and grant money  
for the mall’s new owners, Seminole Mall, LP, and also protect them  
from environmental liability during the property’s redevelopment.
