Speedway property OK’d for current use

Environmental inspectors have determined the Saugus Speedway property, which abuts the contaminated Whittaker-Bermite land, has been satisfactorily cleaned up and is approved for its current use, a state official said Monday.

"For our intents and purposes, the property was investigated and our part is done," Sandy Nax of the California Department of Toxic Substances Control said Monday.

Environmental concerns about the 35-acre site next to the Santa Clarita Metrolink Station were raised earlier this month at a meeting of the Whittaker-Bermite Citizens Advisory Group, which updates the public regularly on the progress of the Whittaker-Bermite cleanup.
