Former Portage auto repair shop approved as brownfield site by Kalamazoo County board By Alex Mitchell Kalamazoo Gazette (MI) December 04, 2013 KALAMAZOO, MI - The Kalamazoo County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously Tuesday to approve the creation of a brownfield site at a former auto repair shop in Portage. The property, located at 9008 Portage Road, is the former site of Bud's Auto Service and is currently owned by Alex Gwiazdowski of South Portage, LLC. Gwiazdowski requested the county's assistance in cleaning up the contaminated property in September and plans to move his business, Disaster Restorations, Inc., into the building once the cleanup is complete. The parcel has long had a history as a contaminated site due to leaking underground storage tanks, said Lotta Jarnefelt, director of the department of planning and community development. In 2006, the Kalamazoo County Brownfield Authority listed the site as the third highest priority amongst similar known contaminated areas within the county. … For the entire article, see http://www.mlive.com/news/kalamazoo/index.ssf/2013/12/portage_brownfield_site_approv.html -- Lenny Siegel Executive Director, Center for Public Environmental Oversight a project of the Pacific Studies Center 278-A Hope Street Mountain View, CA 94041 Voice: 650-961-8918 or 650-969-1545 Fax: 650-961-8918 LSiegel@cpeo.org http://www.cpeo.org _______________________________________________ Brownfields mailing list Brownfields@lists.cpeo.org http://lists.cpeo.org/listinfo.cgi/brownfields-cpeo.org | |
