DEP court action seeks Accu-Cote cleanup at West Deptford property

A Superior Court judge could order the owners of a shuttered chrome  
plating facility in West Deptford to clean up the contaminated  
property or face thousands in fines.

The state Department of Environmental Protection initiated court  
action against Greenvest/Jessup Road LLC, owner of Accu-Cote’s Jessup  
Road property. The DEP wants Greenvest forced to conduct vapor- 
intrusion and other tests and to pay a $40,000 penalty and set up a  
$56,405 site remediation fund, court papers indicate.

When Greenvest bought the 3.27-acre property in 1999, it agreed to  
clean up contamination with state DEP oversight. The company’s  
groundwater tests between 1999 and 2007 showed trichloroethylene  
(TCE) and tetrachloroethylene (PCE), according to DEP records.
