Pompton Lake talks stall as DuPont, EPA disagree By SCOTT FALLON The Record (NJ) March 22, 2014How much contaminated sediment will be removed from Pompton Lake is now in the hands of a federal review board after talks between DuPont and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency broke down this week, both parties said Friday.
EPA officials had hoped they could persuade the chemical giant to expand the proposed cleanup of the contaminated lake from 26 acres to 40 acres and also remediate a variety of "hot spots" of mercury contamination. But DuPont pulled out of negotiations this week.
"We are disappointed," said Bonnie Bellow, an EPA spokeswoman. "We had hoped to reach a mutual agreement."
