PG&E plans clean-up of St. Helena lot

St. Helena Star (CA)
April 23, 2014

ST. HELENA - Pacific Gas & Electric is ready to begin the last phase of cleaning up toxins from a lot at the corner of Mitchell Drive and Oak Avenue that's long been viewed as a potential city parking lot.

The clean-up will take place from May through September, PG&E's Mark Van Gorder told the St. Helena City Council on Tuesday. The main task, the excavation and removal of 4,200 cubic yards of contaminated dirt, should begin in July, he said.

Trucks will remove the dirt in July and August, and there should be about one truck per hour between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. PG&E won't use any off-site parking, and despite the temporary installation of a machine that looks like a drilling rig, PG&E won't be drilling for oil or water.
