Hickenlooper signs two tax-credit bills into law by Ed Sealover Denver Business Journal (CO) May 16, 2014Colorado businesses will get two more shots at tax breaks, thanks to a couple of bills that Gov. John Hickenlooper signed into law Thursday. At a ceremony in Wheat Ridge - the first signing ceremony that local officials can remember being held in the suburb in at least 15 years - Hickenlooper signed Senate Bill 73, which revives a tax break for cleaning and redeveloping contaminated brownfield sites that expired four years ago. ...The previous tax credit on brownfield redevelopment, in fact, was eliminated in 2010 during the recession, after contributing $3 million to the cost of $8 million worth of brownfield cleanup in the previous 10 years. Sponsor Sen. Cheri Jahn, D-Wheat Ridge, learned about that discontinuation two years ago and vowed to bring it back, a process that began with convening a large group of stakeholders in May 2013 and that ended with her getting bipartisan backing for the bill this spring. ...
