Polluted Foster's site may qualify for funding By John Mason. Columbia-Greene Media Hudson Register-Star (NY) August 12, 2014The city of Hudson may have another chance at state funding to clean up what has been seen as its most contaminated site. Mayor William H. Hallenbeck Jr. told the Hudson Industrial Development Agency Monday that the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has named the polluted former Foster’s Refrigeration parcel at 119 N. Second St. as one of the state's brownfield sites that could qualify for remediation aid. Hallenbeck said he will be meeting with city Grantwriter John "Duke" Duchessi Wednesday, and will ask him whether the city qualifies, and if so, direct him to expedite the application. The cleanup was ready to be done in 2007, with funds available, but was apparently halted by the effects of the recession on the state economy. Asked for a briefing on the topic by City Treasurer Heather Campbell, the mayor called Foster's "a problematic area ... complex to clean up in a safe, effective way." ...
