Wake Forest Innovation Quarter seeks brownfields designation by Catherine Carlock Triad Business Journal (NC) August 26, 2014Wake Forest Innovation Quarter has requested a state designation that would make it easier to develop 28 acres in its central district, the next phase of the downtown research park that’s already proven a major economic and employment hub for Winston-Salem. Innovation Quarter last week requested brownfields designation for 28 acres north of Business 40, with U.S. 52 to the east, Church Street to the west and terminating at Third Street, said Eric Tomlinson, president of the Wake Forest Innovation Quarter and chief innovation officer at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, in an interview Tuesday. As my colleague Owen Covington reported in June, a master plan has been in the works for about a year on how to develop the highly visible 28 acres.
