New water line meant to fix Madison pollution for 13

MANSFIELD – Madison Township residents left Tuesday's pollution meeting with good news and bad news.

The good news is that the 12 Madison Township residents and a school that exhibited dangerous levels of a toxin in their drinking water will see new water lines installed and their old wells abandoned at the cost of the Environmental Protection Agency.

Construction on the water line is scheduled to begin late May, and will last roughly 67 days.

The bad news is residents in the 50 other homes in the area, which did not register dangerous levels, will have to pay $5,000 to receive the same, should they wish to abandon their wells.
