WCC approves brownfield plan for former McLouth Steel plant in Gibraltar By Dave Herndon News-Herald (MI) April 2, 2015 When the Cleveland-based Ferragon Corp. recently completed the purchase of Steel Rolling Holdings in Gibraltar, the company was hoping to redevelop the site under a brownfield plan. Thursday the Wayne County Commission approved the site plan unanimously. Ferragon has already begun to changeover the operations and upgrade the facility. In all more than $56 million is expected to be invested in the site. “This is a terrific reuse of an inactive steel plant, and the jobs are most certainly welcome,” said Commissioner Joseph Palamara (D-Grosse Ile Twp.), who sponsored the measure and whose 15th District includes Gibraltar. “The cleanup also is very good news because of the environmentally sensitive nature of the area due to the refuge, the nearby Detroit River, marshes and other wetlands. The Frank and Poet Drain flows onto the property.
