BRA trying to revitalize sections of Navy Yard

The Boston Redevelopment Authority is looking to designate portions of the Charlestown Navy Yard as a special development district to finance the cleanup of contaminated sites and public infrastructure improvements with the goal of spurring development.

The BRA will seek City Council approval to take advantage of a state “district improvement financing” program to fund the work in the Navy Yard’s “historic monument area.”

“It’s a state program established to promote development in a certain targeted geographic area,” BRA Chief of Staff Heather Campisano said. “There are several properties within the historic monument area that have lain dormant for decades, and we’re hoping to be able to use this program to spur development within those few parcels.”
