Corp. store to be built on toxic site scheduled for cleanup
By Brian Nearing Albany Times Union (NY) June 10, 2015A former Washington County grocery store property tainted for decades by toxic PCBs will be cleaned up and reborn as a new Market 32 grocery store for the Schenectady-based Golub Corp. Plans call for the new 40,000-square-foot supermarket, located on about six acres on Broadway in Fort Edward near the General Electric capacitor plant, to be open by Thanksgiving 2016, said town Supervisor Mitch Suprenant. The property used to be a Grand Union, which operated from 1980 to 2003. Since then, said Suprenant, town residents have had to travel either to Queensbury or Saratoga Springs to shop. "People here are pretty excited to get a new store," he said. "And the eyesore will be gone." ...
