Arsenic removal begins Monday for California High football stadium project By Mike Sprague Whittier Daily News (CA) June 7, 2015 SOUTH WHITTIER >> Construction of the new California High School football stadium will be delayed several weeks to allow for the removal of about 730 cubic yards of soil, including high amounts of arsenic. The removal of the soil containing the arsenic, which was found near the northern bleachers and running track, is scheduled through June 19. Valerie Martinez, spokesman for the Whittier Union High School District, said it’s not unusual to find contaminants like this. “When you do a new project, testing is done and what they found was arsenic in the soil,” Martinez said. “It’s a couple of feet down. But in order to move forward, they need to remediate it. It’s our understanding there are no health risks.” … For the entire article, see http://www.pasadenastarnews.com/environment-and-nature/20150607/arsenic-removal-begins-monday-for-california-high-football-stadium-project -- Lenny Siegel Executive Director, Center for Public Environmental Oversight a project of the Pacific Studies Center 278-A Hope Street Mountain View, CA 94041 Voice: 650-961-8918 or 650-969-1545 Fax: 650-961-8918 LSiegel@cpeo.org http://www.cpeo.org _______________________________________________ Brownfields mailing list Brownfields@lists.cpeo.org http://lists.cpeo.org/listinfo.cgi/brownfields-cpeo.org | |
