[Does anyone know of any other instances where parties have been penalized for failing to maintain vapor intrusion mitigation systems? - LS] Garlock fined $100,000 for pollution lapses by Steve Orr Rochester: Democrat and Chronicle (NY) August 5, 2015 State environmental officials have levied a $100,000 fine against Garlock, a major Wayne County manufacturer, for failing to live up to promises made under the brownfield cleanup program. Most notably, the company did not maintain equipment meant to keep potentially harmful chemical vapors from accumulating in buildings atop the brownfield. A news release from the state Department of Environmental Conservation did not spell out how long the equipment did not function or say whether employees were exposed to vapors. Garlock Sealing Technologies makes seals, gaskets and other products at a large complex in Palmyra, where it has been based for more than a century.
