Local employer may receive 20-year property tax break by Lance Griffin Dothan Eagle (AL) November 29, 2015 The Dothan City Commission will vote to approve or reject a tax break for a local packaging company Tuesday. Nypro, an employer of more than 100, will receive an exemption of practically all non-education property taxes for a period of 20 years through a Brownfield Tax Abatement if the commission votes its approval Tuesday. A Brownfield is a development term typically referring to a piece of land previously used for industrial purposes. Eleven years ago, the Alabama Legislature passed tax breaks designed to incentivize redevelopment of the areas. Nypro is located on the same piece of land where Sony operated for many years.
