Bath applies for Brownfield clean up grant by Holly Trainum Morgan Messenger (WV) December 2, 2015 The Town of Bath held two public meetings last month on plans to submit a brownfields cleanup grant application to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for the train depot lot which will serve as the future trailhead for the North Berkeley Rail Trail. The application will request EPA funds to clean up a 2.6 acre parcel of land at 107 Williams Street and Washington Street. The land, previously owned by CSX railroad company, must be cleaned due to subsurface contamination from underground petroleum tanks previously located at the property. Traces of arsenic from rail wood and railroad ties were also found in the soil there. In order for the area to be approved for recreational purposes, it will undergo a “cap and cover” clean-up. The process will involve laying a barrier over the contaminated soil to mitigate its effect on human health and the environment, and then covering the barrier with clean soil. … For the entire article, see http://www.morganmessenger.com/news/2015-12-02/News/Bath_applies_for_Brownfield_clean_up_grant.html -- Lenny Siegel Executive Director, Center for Public Environmental Oversight a project of the Pacific Studies Center 278-A Hope Street Mountain View, CA 94041 Voice: 650-961-8918 or 650-969-1545 Fax: 650-961-8918 LSiegel@cpeo.org http://www.cpeo.org _______________________________________________ Brownfields mailing list Brownfields@lists.cpeo.org http://lists.cpeo.org/listinfo.cgi/brownfields-cpeo.org | |
