City's Brownfield Opportunity Area formally recognized by state

OLEAN - There’s good news for hundred of acres of dormant industrial land in Olean.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Thursday that Olean’s brownfields, which spans 900 acres of land located primarily within city limits where industrial contamination has impeded redevelopment, are now officially recognized by the state as a Brownfield Opportunity Area (BOA).

The classification now opens new developments within the BOA’s boundaries to additional tax credits and incentives.

"These designations are a vital first step in transforming and revitalizing lands left to ruin in communities across the Empire State," Cuomo said in a press release. "Despite being ignored for years, these sites each have tremendous potential for developing local economies and this new status gives these areas greater access to state resources needed to get projects underway as soon as possible."
