Toxic chemical still affects Water Valley

WATER VALLEY - For decades, the carburetor plant run by Holley Performance Products served as this small town’s General Motors.

The plant provided good-paying jobs with good benefits for many who lived here.

“At one time, they had over 1,000 employees,” said M.B. “Snooky” Williams, who moved here in 1955.

But the jobs, it turns out, came with a cost.

The state Department of Environmental Quality is now overseeing continued testing of levels of trichloroethylene, or TCE, used as a degreasing solvent at the plant.
