Brownfield help sought for developer

Frenchtown Township could set up its own brownfield authority or partner with an existing one in Wayne County to finance cleanup of a gasoline leak at the site for a planned 90-room Marriott Inn.

A brownfield redevelopment authority is being considered to help a local developer resolve an environmental issue with construction of a 90-room Marriott Inn and restaurant in Frenchtown Township.

Supervisor Jim McDevitt said he would meet next week with Bill Patel, owner of the 6.5-acre site at the northeast corner of I-75 and N. Dixie Hwy. to discuss the brownfield option. Joining them will be Tim Lake, director of the Monroe County Business Development Corp., who is familiar with brownfield redevelopments.
