Brownfield redevelopment authority could help fund St. Clair Inn project By Jim Bloch New Baltimore Voice (MI) August 26, 2016 The city of St. Clair is considering the establishment of a brownfield redevelopment authority to help the new owner of the St. Clair Inn pay for demolition and cleanup work on the west side of M-29, across the street from the main inn property. Estimates presented to the city by Geoff Donaldson of St. Clair County Metropolitan Planning and David Stegink of the Kalamazoo-based environmental consulting firm Envirologic suggest that it will cost about $1.1 million to remove two underground gas tanks, remove and dispose of asbestos and demolish the main building across the street from the inn before any redevelopment of the property can begin. The new owner, Jeff Katofsky, has already terminated the lease of the gift store Simply Marcella, which operates out of the old gas station immediately south of the building to be razed. The city council met with Donaldson and Stegink in special session on Aug. 15. ...
