State identifies likely source of TCE contamination in Nonantum By Jonathan Dame Newton TAB (MA) September 27, 2016 The state has told a leading global defense contractor, Northrop Grumman, and the current owner of a historic property in Nonantum they could both be held liable for groundwater contamination stretching multiple blocks and affecting dozens of residents in Nonantum, known colloquially as the Lake. Trichloroethylene, or TCE, a chemical liquid once used in dry cleaning and as a degreaser for metal parts, is contaminating groundwater in a section of Nonantum near Pelligrini Park, Jackson Road and Watertown Street. A Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection investigation has discovered evidence of TCE vapor intrusion inside 30 residences. ...
