Subject: [CPEO-BIF] California's updated PCE screening levels

California has issued updated screening levels for vapor-phase tetrachloroethylene (PCE). See

The levels are slightly more protective than before. More important, California is sticking with its protective exposure standard despite U.S. EPA's adoption of much less protective numbers in 2012.

Still, California continues to apply lower attenuation factors than U.S. EPA, so the derived soil gas screen levels are within an order of magnitude of each other.

The lesson for Californians: Insist on indoor air sampling if you are looking for protection from PCE vapor intrusion.
