EPA Begins Testing At Sporlan Valve Site

The Environmental Protection Agency has begun taking samples at the former Sporlan Valve site on Seventh Street.

Crews have been in Washington this week for the initial round of soil testing. The information is just the first set of data the EPA is collecting from the site.

In August the EPA Region 7 hosted a meeting in Washington to inform residents near the former Sporlan Valve site about the possible problems related to contaminated soil and groundwater.

During the meeting, Heath Smith, federal on-site coordinator with the EPA, said air tests have reached an action level for the EPA.
