Brownfield request denied

GAYLORD - The Gaylord City Council has denied a request for a brownfield project at a future Holiday Inn Express site.

At its Oct. 24 meeting, the council unanimously voted to deny the request from Otwell Mawby, an engineering consulting firm, to examine the land at the hotel’s future site, 525 Dickerson Road.

The request for denial came as a result of discussions from a Gaylord Future Planning Committee meeting, which consisted of several council members, Lisa McComb, executive director of the Otsego County Economic Alliance, and Mac McClelland from Otwell Mawby.

According to minutes from the future planning meeting, city representatives denied the brownfield request since the property was most likely bought with the knowledge of the land being tainted.
