EPA updates Attleboro homeowners on cleanup of Superfund site

ATTLEBORO - The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has begun to look at ways to clean up residual pollution spread from the Walton & Lonsbury Superfund site, an official said at a meeting to update residents about the project.

The announcement of a proposed plan to remove or mitigate the remaining chemicals that include dangerous hexavalent chromium and trichloroethylene or TCE, is expected in about a year, EPA Remedial Project Manager Dan Keefe said.

After a plan is adopted, it could take another year to design the cleanup and another year to implement the design.

Homes on top of the underground toxic plume that flows south and southeast from the 74 North Ave. site were tested for evidence of dangerous fumes from TCE.
