Hoover District developers eye 2017 completion for transition

NORTH CANTON The top floors of the sprawling Hoover District complex are segmented by wooden beams and partially laid floors. Its narrow staircases are filled with decades of thick, peeling paint. Some of the windows are more plastic sheeting than glass.

But when developers walk through the former factory, they describe the future: 130 luxury apartments with high ceilings, lofted bedrooms and sizable kitchens. What is currently puddled cement floors and drywall soon will hold breweries, restaurants and shops.


Plans to convert a section of the former Hoover Co. complex at N. Main and E. Maple streets into a mixed-use development have been underway since at least late 2013. From the start, its completion date has been a moving target - first late 2014, then fall of 2015. In March, developers said work would be done by the end of the summer.
