Residents seek full environmental study for proposed Alhambra Lowe’s development

ALHAMBRA - Residents are calling for the city to conduct a full study of the environmental effects a proposed development on Fremont Avenue will have.

West Hollywood-based Charles Company is proposing to develop the property at 875 and 1111 South Fremont Avenue. The proposal includes a 23,160-square-foot Lowe’s Home Improvement Center, two six-story office buildings and a six-level parking structure.

The city’s Planning Commission will discuss and could approve a shorter environmental document Tuesday that bypasses the need for a full study by using precedent cases to illustrate environmental impacts — in this case, the document compares the traffic to a Lowe’s store in the city of Poway in San Diego County.

While traffic is a concern among many residents who live near the proposed development, residents like Michael Lawrence also have raised concerns about potentially dangerous vapors emanating from below ground.
