MountainTrue, state officials reach agreement to develop former brownfield as public park by Jennifer Saylor WLOS TV-13 News (NC) February 6, 2017 ENKA, N.C. - A legal challenge over a former Enka industrial landfill that is being transformed into a public recreation space has been settled. The state's Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ)and MountainTrue, a local environment group, have agreed to move forward with plans to turn the former BASF plant into a park with greenways, ballfields and a concession area. This comes after MountainTrue challenged a brownfields agreement which allows abandoned properties previously called contaminated to be redeveloped.
