Brownfields Program bringing collaboration: Community leaders network, receive information about grants available for downtown Frankfort properties

A forum Wednesday at Buffalo Trace Distillery on the redevelopment of Frankfort’s downtown historic district aimed to provide networking and information about grants available for properties.

Frankfort Community Relations and Grants Manager Rebecca Hall said the city has unspent money from a grant received through an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) program called the Brownfields Program. The grant is for assessment of potential hazards, like asbestos, lead and mold, in old or deteriorated buildings. Hall said the city got permission to use some of the money to hold the forum to bring together developers, property owners and city officials.

The forum included speakers from Frankfort, Lexington, Louisville and northern Kentucky who talked about development projects and other issues.
