IDEM giving old Tokheim property hard look by Mike Grant Washington Times Herald August 1, 2017 The jobs and the factory may be long gone from 227 Front St., but the remnants of the business operations are still having an impact on the neighborhood. For decades, first as McCords and later as Tokheim, the property was used as an industrial production site. Like most industrial operations, chemicals were used there. Now officials are trying to figure out what problems still exist on the property and in the neighborhood as a result of those chemicals. Earlier this year the Southern Indiana Development Commission did an environmental survey of suspected locations for potential redevelopment. The sites were places where residual pollution was suspected. The idea behind the study was to determine what was really going on with the properties in an effort to try and put them back into productive use.
