Cleanup proposed for former Labelon site contamination By DAVID L. SHAW Finger Lake Times (NY) August 7, 2017 CANANDAIGUA - Public comment is invited on a proposed plan to remediate soil contamination at the former Labelon Corp. factory at 10 Chapin St. The state Department of Environmental Conservation has issued a Brownfield Cleanup Program fact sheet on the site that includes this information: THE PROBLEM: The DEC and state Department of Health said their investigation of the site has determined that it poses a significant threat to public health or the environment due to high concentrations of contaminants in groundwater, soil and soil vapor. The primary chemical of concern is trichloroethene or TCE, commonly used in industry to remove grease from metal and other parts.
