Decades, millions spent on Ogdensburg’s contaminated shore By LARRY ROBINSON Watertown Daily Times (NY) August 13, 2017 OGDENSBURG - If not for the chain link fence and metal signs warning the public that the land beyond is contaminated, a large swath of city-owned property along the St. Lawrence River looks idyllic. The roughly 20-acre lot where the former Diamond National Paper Mill once employed hundreds, is today abuzz with the sound of honey bees and other insects working their way across the overgrowth. It’s mid-August, and the emerald-tinged waters of the St. Lawrence River serve as a backdrop to the sprawling, empty parcel of city land, now abloom with a colorful array of Bachelor’s Buttons, Queen Anne’s Lace and other wildflowers.
