State lets power plant developers capture $34M in local, school taxes By Brad Devereaux mlive.com December 21, 2017 NILES, MI -- The state of Michigan will allow developers of a nearly billion-dollar natural gas power generating plant to capture millions in local and school taxes to help finance the project. The Michigan Strategic Fund met Tuesday, Dec. 19, in Lansing, and approved a $34.8 million local tax capture requested by the City of Niles Brownfield Redevelopment Authority. That includes an estimated $6,241,039 in school taxes. Indeck Niles, LLC, plans to use about 276 acres of contaminated property at 2200 Progressive Drive in Niles to construct an approximately 210,300-square-foot electric power generating facility.
