Wheaton Glass pond cleanup nearing end by Joseph P. Smith Daily Journal (NJ) January 5, 2018 MILLVILLE – Early March may see the end of environmental contamination cleanup work at a system of ponds once used to cool discharges from manufacturing at the former Wheaton Glass Co. off G Street, according to the city and a company consulting on the project. Ada Pond is roughly 2.9 acres in size close to the North 2nd Street side of the property, and there are three smaller, connected ponds. The sediment dredging is being done in part using a crane mounted on a large barge that was assembled on site. Project manager Joseph Jeray, an employee of Geosyntech Consultants, told The Daily Journal that a “fine-grain material” was found on the bottom of the pond and that it contains high levels of petroleum hydrocarbons. The sources of the discharges made into the pond are not clear, he said. … For the entire article, see http://www.thedailyjournal.com/story/news/2018/01/05/wheaton-glass-pond-cleanup-nearing-end/1008136001/ -- Lenny Siegel Executive Director Center for Public Environmental Oversight a project of the Pacific Studies Center P.O.
