Remembering Charlie Bartsch

Over the past two decades, the name Charlie Bartsch has been synonymous with the movement to cleanup and redevelop brownfield properties. When he passed away suddenly on January 17, 2018, the brownfields world lost one of its founding fathers, and importantly his family, friends, and colleagues lost an irreplaceable soul mate. Charlie was a fixture at the National Brownfields Conference and a dear friend to many at EPA and ICMA as he was to scores of other people near and far. We’ll miss his distinct voice and laughter and his knowledge and perspectives of a sector he helped to define. Those of us left behind will need to carry forward the cause that he pushed with so much passion, but we are less than we were when he was still with us.

Friends are invited to join with Charlie's family and one another at Gawler's Funeral Home, 5130 Wisconsin Avenue, Washington, DC, on Wednesday, January 24, between 3:00 and 8:00pm. Starting at 6:00 friends may offer remembrances. Gawler's is walking distance from both the Tenleytown and Friendship Heights metro stations on the Red line. A special memorial event is being planned for later this Spring.
