Rover: Solvent in drilling fluid likely legacy pollution Canton Repository (OH) February 22, 2018 BETHLEHEM TWP. Low levels of an industrial solvent found at a work site near the Tuscarawas River are most likely the legacy of heavy industry, and not related to Rover Pipeline’s construction work, the company said Thursday. The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency last week asked Rover to collect more samples of drilling fluid from the pipeline’s Tuscarawas River crossing site after earlier fluid samples tested positive for tetrachloroethene (PCE), a solvent used in dry cleaning and degreasing. In a letter to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, Rover said it would collect more samples, but the apparent source of the PCE in the drilling fluid was likely local surface water used to make the clay-based fluid. The concentration of PCE was below levels that posed a risk to individuals or the environment, the company said. … For the entire article, see http://www.cantonrep.com/news/20180222/rover-solvent-in-drilling-fluid-likely-legacy-pollution -- Lenny Siegel Executive Director Center for Public Environmental Oversight a project of the Pacific Studies Center P.O.
