Dangerous pollutants found at Morse industrial site in South Hill area in Ithaca

State environmental investigators have confirmed high concentrations of pollution at an industrial site in Ithaca.

Morse Industrial Corp., in the South Hill area, is contaminated with industrial solvents and metals including trichloroethylene (TCE), dichloroethene (DCE), trichloroethane (TCA), vinyl chloride, barium and cyanide, according to a recent report by the state Department of Environmental Conservation.

In some of the worst areas, DCE and vinyl chloride were detected up to 19,700 parts per billion and 2,040 parts per billion respectively, compared to their groundwater standards of 5 and 2 parts per billion.
