DEQ loans Kalamazoo $600K to clean up contaminated paper mill By Malachi Barrett MLive.com (MI) May 9, 2018 KALAMAZOO, MI -- The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality is loaning the city of Kalamazoo $600,000 to clean up contamination at a shuttered paper mill. The vacant building at 400 Bryant St. will be redeveloped into a new space for 160 staff from Kalamazoo County Health and Community Services to move in. A $9 million investment by PlazaCorp is expected to add $1.07 million in new taxable value to the city. A brownfield plan was approved by the city of Kalamazoo to help cover the cost of removing contaminated soils containing ash from the site.
