Whitaker Park developer pursues Brownfields certification which allows state tax credits for cleaning up R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. campus buildings By Richard Craver Winston-Salem Journal (NC) August 27, 2018 The organizer of the Whitaker Park renovation initiative has applied for Brownfields status for the two main production buildings on the former R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. campus. The buildings are 601-1 and 601-11. They sit on 56.11 acres off 1001 Reynolds Blvd., according to a legal notice made public Friday. The request has been submitted to the N.C. Department of Environmental Quality by Whitaker Park Development Authority Inc. It represents a step two years in the making. “We are placing the entire project in the Brownfields program,” said Bob Leak Jr., president of Winston-Salem Business Inc. “This will protect future tenants in the event an environmental issue is ever found. Fortunately, there are no known issues with the property.” … For the entire article, see https://www.journalnow.com/business/whitaker-park-developer-pursues-brownfields-certification-which-allows-state-tax/article_6f05b2db-8d78-59dc-92f8-60db91d6dff8.html -- Lenny Siegel Executive Director Center for Public Environmental Oversight a project of the Pacific Studies Center P.O.
