EPA proposes remediating Delco Plant 5 site By Carson Gerber Kokomo Tribune (IN) February 5, 2021 The vacant site at the former General Motors plant at 1723 N. Washington St. could reopen for new development after the Environmental Protection Agency released a proposed plan to cleanup pollutants at the property. The plan aims to remediate and manage contaminated soil and groundwater at the former GM Delco Plant 5 facility, which assembled and tested circuit boards between 1953 and 1991, when the facility closed. In 1993, the 144,000-square-foot plant, located just south of Martino’s Italian Villa, was demolished, including removing the floor slab. Since then, the 10.5-acre property has sat vacant due to redevelopment restrictions requiring the lot to be remediated before it could be used again, according to property records. … For the entire article, see https://www.kokomotribune.com/news/epa-proposes-remediating-delco-plant-5-site/article_7773f2be-6719-11eb-ba8a-cfc1176b8ad8.html -- Lenny Siegel Executive Director Center for Public Environmental Oversight A project of the Pacific Studies Center LSiegel@cpeo.org P.O.
