Commission hears groundwater project update By Dan Cherry Sturgis Journal (MI) March 29, 2021 Progress is being made to remove contaminants from an underground aquifer in Sturgis, although more work is needed to remove what was found nearly 40 years ago. On March 24, Sturgis City Commission received an update from representatives of Newell Brands and Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy, regarding the Sturgis Municipal Well Field Superfund Site … Soil and groundwater contamination was found beneath former Kirsch Plant No. 1 in 1982, near the intersection of Hatch and Prospect streets.
