Asheville approves 5- to 6-story River Arts District development near greenway By Joel Burgess Asheville Citizen Times (NC) August 26, 2021 ASHEVILLE - A five- to six-story building has been approved in the River Arts District for the former site of a historic cotton fabric factory that burned to the ground a quarter century ago. City Council voted 5-2 to approve the proposed 70-foot tall residential and commercial building at the site of the former Cotton Mill at 159 Riverside Drive. The vote came over objections by Councilwomen Kim Roney and Sage Turner, who criticized the number of apartments with affordable rents. Brennan Smith of Tampa-based BRN Development proposed the 134-unit structure with 14,000 square feet of commercial space and 182 off-street parking spots.
