Monitoring of cleanup at former CTS Superfund site in Asheville continues this week BY JENNIFER EMERT WLOS MY40 TV (Asheville, NC) JANUARY 13, 2022 ASHEVILLE, N.C. - You may notice activity on the former CTS Superfund site along Mills Gap Road over the next week. A team from Wood, a contractor working with the EPA on site cleanup, is testing the ground water in 15 wells scattered across 1.9 acres. The group will be drawing up water from 25 feet below the surface for testing to ensure the remediation process is continuing to work. This is the fourth test of the In-Situ Chemical Oxidation or ISCO process to rid the site of TCE. TCE is a cancer-causing solvent and fuel oil that's contaminated ground water on the site and neighboring properties.
